Central Bowen Basin
Project Overview
The Central Bowen Basin projects comprise of 3 prospective tenements; Expedition Peak, Essex and Springton Duaringa covering an area of approximately 942km2 in total.
Expedition Peak
Expedition Peak consists of EPC 1512, which covers a total area of approximately 129km2, and is located to the west of the German Creek mine operated by Anglo Coal Australia, and north of the Gregory Mine operated by BMA in the central Bowen Basin area. The tenement is located within close proximity to the Oaky Creek rail line, which provides access to the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, approximately 300km from the tenement by rail.
Expedition Peak is located within close proximity to a number of existing coal mining operations as outlined below:
| Project | Company | Proximity to Expedition Peak | Coal Type | PJORC Resources 1 (mt) | Production (mtpa) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Foxleigh | Anglo Coal Australia (LSE:AAL) | 30km to the east | PCI coal | 290 | 3.3 |
| German Creek | Anglo Coal Australia (LSE:AAL) | 10km to the east | Coking coal | 157 | 5.5 |
| Norwich Park | BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance | 47km to the north | Coking coal and ultra low volatile PCI coal | 449 | 5.5 |
| Oaky Creek | Xstrata plc (LSE:XTA) | 4km to the south east | Coking coal | 527 | 11.0 |
| Kestrel | Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) | 21km to the south | Coking and thermal coal | 162 | 4.2 |
1 Includes measured, indicated and inferred JORC resources based on publicly available information as at December 2009
To date, there are no known occurrences of coal within the Expedition Peak tenement area with limited historical exploration conducted. The area remains prospective for the Collinsville Coal Measures or Blair Athol Coal Measures at depth. The Company's exploration strategy primarily intends to target medium coking coals and export quality thermal coals in these measures.
Essex
Esses is located south of Rockwood and east of the Fitzroy Development Road. It is believed to be prospective for PCI-Style coal and thermal coal.Endocoal's geophysical survey at Essex involved ground gravity, combined with photo geology mapping. The work has identified geological structures similar to those present in the Rockwood area. Based on reviews of other historical drilling and seismic surveys in the area, Essex is considered prospective for coal seams at the eastern extent of the Moranbah Coal Measures. Other activities to date have included drill site pegging, cultural heritage surveys of planned scout drilling holes and securing land access. These activities are continuing, with the intent to commence scout drillng Q4 2011.
Springton Duaringa
Springton Duaringa EPC 1803, is located north of Dingo and east of the Fitzroy Development Road. It lies relatively close to the to the Blackwater System rail line. It is believed to be prospective for PCI- style coal and thermal coal/Endocoal has focused on geological structural mapping, along with geophysical surveys involving photo geology structural mapping and a ground gravity survey. as part of the work, 30 line kilometres of 2D (two dimensional) seismic survey has now been completed.
These results will be combined with other aeromagnetic survey data to deliver a detailed geological structure evaluation and will identify potnetial drilling targets. A scout drilliing program is planned for Q4 2011/Q12012. The area is considered prospective for shallow coal seams contained within expected structural repeats of the Rangal Coal Measures.
